Another little throwback ensemble to the streets of Venice and an outfit which has remained on the camera roll for far too long. I hope you don’t mind a return to those pretty colourful buildings and shimmery waters? After a rainy Monday hard at work, feeling slightly blue that a great weekend with my fam is all but over, I know I certainly don’t!
It feels rather strange to think that this little long weekend to Venice was and will be our only travel commitment this year until we go on honeymoon at the end of December, just as the Christmas madness begins. While we’re not a couple who travels non stop (as much as we’d love to, generally work, funds and life prevent that) we’ve normally got at least a couple of things booked in within the year, and more often than not at least a week away over Summer for some much needed Vitamin D and all important unwinding.
But not this year. Because this year there is no unwinding until that date in November has been and gone and where as normally the summer months might be the time to stop, take a break and take stock of the stresses life throws at us, this year it feels like the opposite. Summer is instead the prequel to the main event, the time when everything has started ramping up and there is no time to stop and rest. As a result, looking back at these Venice pictures, where we truly switched off, unwound and left everything behind, is hugely therapeutic. I can only imagine how great the feeling will be to finally stop, break and evaluate in Dec when travelling off for our month long honeymoon!
Denim Shirt – c/o Boden | Feather skirt – Missguided | Trainers – Adidas Originals | Backpack – c/o Asos | Watch – Larsson and Jennings
This outfit was worn on our final day of the trip, a surprise belter of sunny weather and blue skies, and one last carefree day of roaming, eating and drinking. I opted for comfort above all, as days of walking in wet weather had left me with sore feet and blisters and not wanting to be limited in how far we could take ourselves, the comfiest of trainers, my Adidas originals, were a welcome respite.
The rest of my outfit is once again my favourite combo of dressed down glamour, in the form of a statement feathered hem skirt (which I originally bought around Christmas time but is faring well in all seasons) and the softest of all denim shirts. I adore the way the feathers move softly on this skirt and despite looking like a fitted pencil skirt is actually made from the comfiest of stretchy fabrics making it a dream to walk around in. Note to self – buy more clothes with feathers on, they’re ridiculously fun!
I added the obligatory – throw everything in – backpack, a pair of statement sunglasses and my much coveted Larsson and Jennings watch. It was an outfit I put together out of comfort and ease, but one that ended up being the perfect get up for a perfect last day.
We walked all day, taking in all the spots we’d previously missed. Climbed the bell tower for those spectacular views, ate gelato while the sun shone, had one final indulgent Italian meal, one final Aperol Spritz and then waved farewell to the beautiful Firenze just as the sun started to set.
What do you think of my feathered look? Are you a fan of mixing dressy with casual?
